Table redo

I decided the boys needed a homework table that they could use to work at. I got a cheap $20 desk from Ikea and decided to improve it a bit. It was just plain white and I used good ole spray paint and painted a fun stripe on it. I am happy with the way it turned out! Who doesn't love a stripe?

 Finished product!

Baby Shower

In March I got to throw a baby shower with some friends for a friend who is having her first, a baby boy. It was fun to plan, and turned out really cute. Here is a few of the details...

I drew this using chalk markers, loved the chalk markers, a must have!
 Party favors
 advice book
Food table (missing the salads in this photo)
Paper products
Sandwiches (I used the chalk markers for the labels too)
We had build your own fruit pizzas...
 They were yummy!
 darling diaper cake McKenzie made
Punch (with out the sprite in it)
Snips and snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of.
 The party
Amie and Jodi (mom to be)

Desk/bookshelf Makeover

Back in October I got the itch to redo some furniture. I started with the Desk. This desk Drew's dad made for him while he was in high school. It was just the natural oak, and I wanted to darken it. I decided to give gel stain and try, and I ended up loving it. It was so easy to use and turned out exactly how I wanted.

Here was my little helper, (he was oh so helpful!)
We ended up barricading off this area, NO MR. HAYDEN'S ALLOWED!

So here is the only before picture I got
 This is during.
You have to put a couple of coats of the gel on, and it has to dry for several days in between coats. So the process takes a lot of time, but it mostly is just drying time.

And here is the finish product!

Then I decided while I am in the painting, redoing mood I might as well tackle the book shelf. This bookshelf Drew made for us when we were first married (way back when:) It was made from Alder, and just need a little updating. I had seen (on pinterest, surprise surprise) a cute table someone had done with a thick fat stripe painted on top. So I decided to go with that idea and also add some color. Here is the before... Plain Jane
And here is the Finish... much more fun and exciting

I did a cool aqua-y color for the base, then antiqued it. Then on the top did the fun stripe with the gel stain and white (also antiqued). It is hard to get the right light so you see the actual color on Camera, but i do like how it turned out!

Dresser Makeover

Thought I would share the dresser makeover we did for the baby's room. And when I say we I really mean Drew. He seriously did such a great job. Other then wiping down a few drawers and picking out the color I did nothing. Don't I have the best husband ever! Thanks Hun!!

Didn't get a picture before Drew had sanded it, but it was a light green color with gold crackle. This is before the paint went on.

And here is the after!
I know you are thinking Turquoise, really, that is a little crazy. And yes it is, but I love it and just check it out with the quilt I made for bedding. So fun for a baby boy room, right!! And I love the knobs at the top, found those at Hobby Lobby.

Projects with Ashlee

So I am finally posting a few projects my sister and I did while she was here visiting. First, the Ruffle Lace Shirt. We were window shopping and came across a really cute shirt similar to this and thought, we can totally make that. Here is our version.
We made a few new pillows for Ashlee's HouseAsh need something to organize coupons and cash. This is what we came up with. Before we covered it it was just one of those boring plastic file holders. We just used a hot glue gun and glued the fabric to the plastic.
And these fun Flip flops. Find the tutorial HERE!

Book of Mormon Holder

I got this cute idea from a friend who did something similar for all the kids in their primary. I thought it was such a cute idea that I had to make one. Mason also decided that since he was a big bad sunbeam he needed to take his scriptures to church, so it worked out great for us both!! All I did was covered the B of M with felt, sewed an "M" onto the front, and used ribbon to make handles.
